Live Shots: Rise Against and Alkaline Trio set a fire for Masonic crowd

Chicago's finest punks tore into Thursday night, heading into final stretch of their 'Ricochet' tour.

Did you feel it last Thursday night, that banging energy radiating out from The Masonic? Those inside at the October 22 San Francisco stop of Rise Against’s Ricochet tour with Alkaline Trio sure did. Through shifting moshpit trends (critics classified the opening pit as more orderly, compared with the Rise Against chaos), the two Chicago crews came hard at the end of the long string of shows.

Indeed, the crowd went hard for a weeknight, spurred to energetic heights by a pair of bands whose trips through their catalogues gave as good as they got. Rise Against’s 10 album-span, capped by last year’s newest release, reflects the story of a band that has come from the margins to being a headliner in sweaty, high-volume rooms around the world. — text by Caitlin Donohue
