The 46th Annual San Francisco Jewish Film Festival is running through August 2, and 48 Hills is presenting two awesome events this Sat/25: immersive live musical performance mdbr mdbr: Brian Chase & Annie Albagli (6pm at the Roxie) and director Shervin Nassi’s fast-paced tragicomedy Only Good Feelings (8pm at the Roxie).
We’ve got 5 pairs of tickets to give away to each. Pushing the boundaries of sound and image, experimental drummer Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Drums and Drones) presents a one-of-a-kind collaboration with Bay Area based multimedia artist Annie Albagli, developed exclusively for SFJFF46. Their performance will loosely explore the concept of ‘wilderness’ in its different modalities. mdbr mdbr refers to the Hebrew words medaber (speaking) and midbar (nature), which share a linguistic root. About Only Good Feelings (World Premiere), Saturday July 25, 8pm at the Roxie
Benny (Ryan McCartan) and his best friend Kameron (Elias Kacavas) are fleeing to Mexico, desperate to outrun their collapsing lives in New York City. In Only Good Feelings, a fast-paced tragicomedy set among a loosely connected, semi–class-conscious cohort of born-and-bred city characters, grief emerges as the true protagonist. It lingers in Benny’s confrontation with sudden loss, in the uneasy vulnerability of grief counseling sessions (featuring a striking Josie, played by Amanda Steele), and in the persistent question underlying everything: Where does one go from here?
