After Gov. Gavin Newsom threw the trans community under the bus on his failing podcast, spouting terrible right wing misinformation on trans athletes, the backlash from his own community has been severe. This past Monday, on International Transgender Day of Visibility, families in Kentfield—where Newsom recently purchased a home—marched in support of the transgender community and LGBTQ rights.
According to filmmaker Arne Johnson, one father who participated:
“More than 100 of us marched to Gavin’s house in Kentfield without incident. There was much joy and chanting along the way, with neighbors honking and holding up signs along the route. We stopped at Gavin’s house and heard some lovely blessings from Sister Shalita Corndog [of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence] and then commenced into a flash mob dance party to “Born This Way” and “Pink Pony Club” (requested by an 8 year old).
Then A LOT of sheriff cars showed up—they looked like they felt a little silly descending on a bunch of kids and parents dancing to pop songs, and they watched bemused as we peacefully marched on back to our staging ground.”
