Let’s hear it for the sturdy little sidekicks of the dog world: the corgi! An ancient herding breed from Wales, corgis may look like stumpy little potatoes on marijuana edibles, but they have big personalities, big appetites, and a surprising capacity for long-distance walkies (or, uh, waddlies). Despite their deceptively energetic natures, corgis are popular urban doggos, due to their compact size and relative good humor.
And so for corgi enthusiasts—whether owners or admirers—the event of the year is Corgi Con!
The brainchild of doting corgi person Cynthia Lee, Corgi Con has been herding hordes of these fierce, friendly puppers and their fans since 2014. Its humble beginnings consisted of a casual meetup of fewer than 100 dogs on San Francisco’s Ocean Beach, but this year’s con will take over the Alameda Fairgrounds on September 27, complete with vendor booths, photo ops, meet-and-greets, and, of course, corgi costumes and games. Plus, in a nod to the common ground between all vertically challenged love nuggets, it will feature the launch of a complementary springtime gathering, StumpyCon!
You don’t even have to own a dog to attend these pawsitively enchanting events, just head on over and revel in canine appreciation ‘til your dogs bark.
