And what a month it was. Psyched! Fest, the brainchild of the local Psyched! FM that ran October 11 through November 6, proved to be an explosion of deserving local talent and big-shot headliners. Photographer Angelique Persails was there to capture the beats, including from Brooklyn shoegaze group DIIV, who took over the Great American Music Hall on October 21 on the eve of the release of their fifth studio album ZIRP!

High-energy Psyched! fans came to Clement Street venue Neck of the Woods on October 30, when Merced post-punk band 60 Juno headlined a bill ahead of their European tour with lo-fi local ragers Misandrist, who were clearly in the Halloween spirit as their costume store wigs made a valiant effort to stay affixed.

And then, suddenly, it was November, its first night overseen by Frankie and the Witch Fingers, a Los Angeles psych outfit once described as a “fever dream of proto-punk venom, fractured new wave and industrial grime.” The electrifying sludge was received enthusiastically by the Great American Music Hall crowd, who spent the set prior with Carrion Kids, whose punk chaos is well-known to the Mexico City scene. Hats off to Psyched! for an impeccable rock curation from near and far, and long live indie concerts forever and ever. — text by Caitlin Donohue
