Live Shots: Poison the Well delivers melodic metalcore inspiration

Alongside openers Glassjaw, the South Floridian group took it back to 1999's benchmark 'The Opposite of December.'

The metal gods smiled when Poison the Well announced the group’s 17-gig United States and Canada tour dates—and they strummed air guitars mightily when it was additionally proclaimed that every night, the South Floridian classics would perform their highly regarded 25-year-old debut album The Opposite of December… A Season of Separation.

Why the metalcore loop down 1999 memory lane? “For me, The Opposite of December… represents everything I absorbed as a teenager: the shows, the music, the raw energy of hardcore and punk,” said Poison the Well vocalist Jeff Moreira in a statement. “Seeing people continue to connect with it inspires me every day.”

Alongside post-hardcore New York openers Glassjaw (who are also celebrating their back catalog with the vinyl release of 1998’s Don Fury Sessions) the bands created an unique throwback crucible—ideal for fans who wanted it heavy, raw, and cathartic.
