Good Taste: Open up! New restaurants coming your way in June

Al Pastor Papi eyes a new space, fresh entrants at the Ferry Building and Saluhall, even more future eats.

Good Taste helps you eat well in the Bay Area. This week, we share some June openings that are going to be worth investigating.

Nopa Fish

Last August, Tablehopper broke the story that Nopa Fish signed a lease at the Ferry Building. A May 16 Instagram post from Nopa Fish shared that it is “set to open in the first week of June,” but there’s been no additional follow-ups as of press time. Here’s hoping that you can belly up to Nopa’s fish counter (and market) for chowder, salads, and maybe, as Laurence Jossel told Tablehopper, potential dishes such as “fish and chips, tostadas, a fish sandwich, awesome fries, crudo, and poké,” some time very soon.

Cubita

Back of the House, which operates 24 restaurants in the Bay Area, has taken over the former El Techo space in the Mission and transformed it into a new rooftop bar called Cubita (2516 Mission, SF), which opens on June 6. Cocktails are the focus, but there will be snacks such as empanadas de ropa vieja, tostones, cubanos with housemade lechón, and fried whole local rock cod for sharing. The nearby nonprofit CubaCaribe collaborated on the design and the art programming.

Parachute Bakery

Also soon to come to the Ferry Building are Parachute Bakery and Arquet Restaurant from the team behind Sorrel, chef Alex Hong and Joel Wilkerson; the former is expected to open some time in June. Follow the bakery’s Instagram account for more announcements. They’ve so far posted a logo of a parachute made out of a croissant, a good sign.

Tacos El Ultimo Baile

San Francisco Chronicle shared the news that Tacos El Ultimo Baile is moving into Saluhall (945 Market, SF) some time in June for “new energy and new life.” Saluhall recently turned one and has seen some recent comings and goings, and this will be a positive.

Al Pastor Papi

Back in March, I broke the news that Miguel Escobedo found a restaurant space for Al Pastor Papi, his former mobile taco trailer, at 232 O’Farrell Street, in a former Chipotle near Union Square. Escobedo tells Good Taste that he’s hopeful that he’ll be able to get the doors open to the newly named Al Pastor Papi Mexican Grill in June, but he is not 100 percent certain as of this writing. We’re including it here in the hopes that we’ll be seeing the the Pastor Papi trompo and DJs in action soon.
