Live Shots: OMD brings ’80s electricity to Fox Theatre

The crowd lit up to hear the classic synth-pop band play favorites and rarities on Tuesday, May 24.

Andy McCluskey of classic synth-pop band Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark told us earlier this week that “The Fox Theatre is going to look terrific,” when they came to town on Tuesday—and that promise was more than kept with the outfit’s light show. imported from the UK for their Souvenir: 40 Year of OMD tour. But it was Andy’s energy and the driving music of the band that really shone, as hits like “So in Love” and “If You Leave” and rarities from from the their more than four-decade career invited shouts of recognition, singalongs, and some wild stage dancing. Opening duo In the Valley Below brought sweet indie melodies to warm up a crowd that was ready to go.
