We’re incredibly excited to announce that community leaders Dean Preston and Cat Brooks will be speaking at the 12th Annual 48 Hills Community Gala and 2025 Best of the Bay Winners’ Celebration! CAT BROOKS is co-founder and executive director of Anti-Police Terror Project and Justice Teams, host of Law & Disorder on KPFA, and a long-time performer, organizer, and activist. She played a central role in the struggle for justice for Oscar Grant, finished second in the 2018 Oakland mayoral election, and has spent the last decade and a half working with impacted communities and families to rapidly respond to police violence and radically transform the ways our communities are organized and cared for. She is an award-winning artivist, resident playwright, director and actress with The Lower Bottom Playaz in Oakland and 3 Girls Theater in San Francisco. DEAN PRESTON is a statewide housing advocate, tenants rights attorney, and activist. He was formerly the elected representative of District 5 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Both as a legislator and activist, Dean has repeatedly challenged the super-wealthy to pay their fair share. He’s a progressive champion working to address critical issues of economic security and racial equity in San Francisco. Learn more about Dean here.
