APRIL 24, 2015 – I don’t know any tenants in San Francisco today who aren’t worried about eviction. If you rent, there’s a chance that your landlord will want to get rid of you so someone with more money can live in your place.

But renters and housing advocates are fighting back – and one of the most powerful weapons is knowledge. A lot of the time, you have more rights than you think – and there are ways to protect yourself from an unscrupulous landlord.

Tomorrow, Saturday/25, the Anti-Displacement Coalition is holding a day-long series of workshops on “How to Stay in Your Home.” The lineup is great, covering everything from the rights of Single-Room Occupancy hotel residents to beating Ellis Act evictions, navigating buyouts, and fighting new luxury housing.

Tenant counselors will be around all day to offer direct support and advice to people facing any sort of housing issues.

It’s free. There will be sessions in English, Spanish, and Chinese. Here’s the full lineup.

10am-4pm, Tenderloin Neighborhood School, 627 Turk St.

48 Hills welcomes comments in the form of letters to the editor, which you can submit here. We also invite you to join the conversation on our FacebookTwitter, and Instagram
