After the rainbow flags have unfurled and the 4th of July fireworks lit up the sky, we come to the next big city event, 710 or Oil Day. What is this holiday you may ask? All true stoners know that on July 10 we celebrate cannabis oil and the many forms it takes. Why July 10 you may ask? Well, the scientific reason is that it’s the word OIL upside down. Thank you, stoners.
(Reader Chris Falco writes in: “Serendipitously the address in the Haight where the Grateful Dead lived for a while was 710 (H)Ashbury Street. Cosmic alignment? Maybe.)
So 710 is the day you want to celebrate by dabbing, smoking an infused joint or vape cartridge, adding some shatter or rosin to your bowl, or smoking a nice ball of hash for that extra buzz beyond just getting stoned.
Speaking of hash, David Downs, the editor of Leafly and the brains behind the very successful Weed Week celebration last April is back with Hash Week beginning on Wed/10 and running through Tuesday, July 16.
The week promises seven hash gods with seven product drops at seven smoking lounges over seven nights.
“Pride in my city’s cannabis culture” said Downs when asked why he created another cannabis event week. “All of its growers, hashmakers, and lounges made me want to showcase them in a Hash Week and 7/10 seemed like the perfect time after our smash hit SF Weed Week.”
“I’m most excited by the sheer variety, and exclusiveness of what everyone is bringing to their parties—from Kalya’s last 90-micron rosin Z of the year to Fire King’s collab with Canna Country. These folks are highly inspired chefs of oleoresin,” he said.
Here is the full schedule. Most events are free. You just need to sign up via Eventbrite to reserve your place.
Hash Week starts off with Royal Key releasing its Black Rainbow Piss Rosin at 11am at Chronic Culture. Then at Moe Greens Dispensary at 1pm, Kandid Kush will debut their new hash macro photo art show called MACRO-DOSE which promises “the most high-resolution, magnified, clear and artistic images of the most expensive, elite, and refined cannabis extracts of all time.” Signed and numbered limited editions are on sale for about $600 each. The art show will run throughout the week at Moe Greens.
Then, Emerald Cup Award-dominating Arcata Fire will drop new pens and virgin LANTZ rosin from 5-7 p.m. at Moe Greens, followed by 710 Labs from 7-8:30pm at the same location.
On Thursday, July 11, Timeless Vapes will debut the new CCELL technology at Urbana on Geary from 4pm-6pm; Solful plans a special in-house release from noted local hashmaker Harry Rose from 5pm-7pm; Nasha will debut their line of hashish at Moe Greens from 6pm-8pm; Ember Valley will holding court at Flore Dispensary from 7-8:30pm; and “Frenchie Dreams of Hashish,” the wonderful documentary about the late great hashish maker Frenchy Cannoli, will play at Meadow HQ at 5:30pm.
Next up on Friday, July 12, there will be a CCELL demo with Gelato at Marina Greens from 5pm-6pm, and then Errl Hill Extracts presents their Blueberry Muffins at Flore from 5pm-7:30pm.
Saturday, July 13 sees another CCELL demo at Russian Hill Cannabis Club from 12:45-2:15pm; Kalya Extracts dropping a new product plus art, food and hash history at Moe Greens from 1pm-3pm; and Canna Country and Fire King doing their thing at Exit Now in Richmond, CA from 3-5pm.
Also remember on Saturday to bring your stoned self to Mission Cannabis Club for BONG-O BINGO from 6pm-9pm. Thee Pristine Condition, Brandelicious and myself will be hosting rounds of cannabis bingo with plenty of drag, mocktails and stoney treats thrown in. Winners receive a cannabis bag with every round. It’s a great time to ride that mellow hash buzz while playing games with lots of stoners. $15 at the door plus a purchase at the dispensary gets you in on all the fun.
If you are more in more of a heavy dub reggae mood, then there is Dubs & Dabs happening Saturday night at Chronic Culture from 7-9:30pm with sets by DJ Sep (Dub Mission), Maneesh the Twister (Surya Dub, Dub Mission), and a live dubwise mix by Thomas Andrew Misner. “You bring the rig, we bring the riddim,” the invite promises.
Day Five, Sunday, July 14, Holy Water at Urbana off Mission Street will roll hash holes from 3pm-5pm with promises of chicken and waffle followed by Dab-E-Oke Karaoke and Dabs at the SF Hash Week Lounge located at 1161 Post Street from 4pm-8pm. A $150 ticket gets you karaoke, dabs, Japanese food, and lots of stoney good times.
On Monday, July 15, Hash Week heads back to Urbana on Geary with Oakland Extracts debuting their new flavors from 5pm-7pm with a hash chat with Kaisha-Dyan McMillan.
Hash Week wraps up on Tuesday, July 16 with a Space Gems demo at SPARC on Polk from 5pm-6:30pm, and then Jetty Extracts debuts new flavors at Mission Cannabis Club along with another CCELL demo from 5:30pm-7:45pm.
That is quite a schedule with lots of great concentrates to try and cannabis folks to meet. Mad props to David Downs for putting this all together. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and become part of the Bay Area cannabis world. Plus you will get turned on to so many new products and technology.
What’s up next for Downs? “Next is a cannabis farmers’ almanac poster-calendar for 2025 and the ‘Get to the Bag’ mylar show at Hall of Flowers in September in Santa Rosa,” he said.
We will all look forward to that!
I look forward to seeing you out and about at Hash Week. Save a dab for me!
Now it’s time to light up.
