WED/20 “BETWEEN CERTAIN DEATH AND A POSSIBLE FUTURE” One of my favorite authors Mattilda Sycamore Bernstein has only grown in stature and importance with each book released. The latest, Between Certain Death And A Possible Future is a compendium of essays on “Queer Writing on Growing up with the AIDS Crisis” with some incredible contributions from the likes of Robert Birch, Keiko Lane, Aaron Nielsen and Andrew R. WED/20 SAN FRANCISCO NEO-FUTURISTS: INFINITE WRENCH The surreal and ridiculously funny Neo-Futurists are not afraid to push improv comedy to its limits — witness this “ongoing, ever-changing attempt to perform 30 plays in 60 minutes for a live audience.” The troupe is reviving this beloved stunt for Litquake. FRI/22 FILM SCHOOL The California indie shoegaze quintet just released its sixth album, the aptly titled “We Weren’t Here,” relying on remote technology to collaborate on songs during the pandemic. SAT/23 LUMPIAPALOOZA Celebrate Filipino Heritage Month with a fist full of crispy, flaky, buttery, deliciously stuffed, and perfectly golden lumpia, the ultimate traditional pork (or chicken, or serrano pepper, or even cheeseburger) roll. SAT/23 LITCRAWL 2021 From “Authors Shaken and Stirred” at Martuni’s Bar to “Donde Esta Mi Gente?” at the Chapel and a ZYZZYVA showcase at Dog-Eared Books, this annual literary bonanza caps off Litquake with dozens of readings that fill venues mostly centered on Valencia Street. SAT/23 BEARRISON STREET FAIR Gather around, children, as Grandpa Gay regales you with tales of hairy bear festivals past, including “Hairrison”—a roly-poly fur fest that stretched down Harrison Street in the 2000s and featured all kinds of hirsute pursuit. Now another grizzly growl has risen in its place called Bearrison, “a fair for every bear” with dancing, vendors, live acts, and lots of bear hugs. It’s kind of like Folsom, except, well, fulsome.
