Live Shots: 11th Annual 48 Hills Gala was splendid—we need you to reach our goal!

Honoring "Women of Resistance" in the gorgeous War Memorial Green Room, with vinyl records, cool cocktails, and luscious bundt cakes.

The day was sweltering, but cool people by the dozens filled the San Francisco War Memorial’s Green Room on the evening of October 5 for the 11th Annual 48 Hills Gala. Retro Latin music—on vinyl!—by DJ Lizzy Al Toque of Chulita Vinyl Club was the perfect welcome to this year’s theme: honoring “Women of Resistance.” The honorees included sisters Ashley and Michelle Monterrosa (community activism), choreographer Alleluia Panis of Kularts (arts), writer and activist Lisa “Tiny” Gray-Garcia of Poor Magazine (journalism), and up-and-coming change-maker Melissa Hernandez (“Woman to Watch”). Comedian and prison educator Shanti Charan was the emcee, and was also honored.

Guests enjoyed a lavish spread from Limón restaurant, luscious and decorative bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes, and delicious cocktails including the fizzy, gin-based “48 Hills.” Raffle prizes included tickets to Cine+Mas Latino Film Festival, BroadwaySF’s “Kimberly Akimbo,” and Best of the Bay-winning “Dear San Francisco“; a $100 gift certificate to Casements Bar in the Mission; a Stud Bar package of logo apparel, and a beauty kit by Blended Society.

Despite all the wonderful support, we fell just shy of our goal due to several regular sponsors experiencing financial difficulties. Please make a tax-deductible donation here to save local journalism and help keep the city’s arts + culture scene alive! Thank you to everyone who has been with us on this 11-year journey!

48 Hills welcomes comments in the form of letters to the editor, which you can submit here. We also invite you to join the conversation on our FacebookTwitter, and Instagram
