Politics on Tuesday: The tenant vote, D10 – and a place where housing prices just go down

By Tim Redmond

FEB. 11, 2014 — There was a telling moment at the tenant convention this weekend, a hint at how the race for state Assembly is shaping up.

Six supervisors were on hand, and the organizers made a point of recognizing all of them (hey: that’s a quorum. Too bad nobody filed a meeting notice in advance, they could have approved some of the proposed legislation on the spot …).

Sup. David Chiu got nice, polite applause. Sup David Campos got an overwhelming, roaring ovation.

The room was packed, and not just with the usual suspects: The were vast majority of the tenants on hand were likely new to this kind of organizing, drawn to the event by the fear that the eviction epidemic had spread. (That, and the truly amazing work of the folks who put this series of events together.) (more after the jump)
